Manage Your Time Now Before Stealing More Time From Yourself

Springtime is here! :) It seems that the month of March was not as peaceful as one would’ve hoped. Last March brought on a global pandemic and I feel that we've made some progress with vaccines, but there is so much more ahead of us in the new normal.


As I get ready to move, cleansing and decluttering life, continue expanding my business, trying to have some type of dating life, be a good friend, a good daughter, a good sister, a mostly decent coach ... it's not easy. What I find is that managing my time is a little more difficult with so many blurred lines between what I think is important and what others think I think should be important.


Does anyone feel me?


If you've caught onto the pattern of managing boundaries and time this year, you'll realize that in order to have the most confident, happy and intentional life (up to this point for me) I've realized that I need to have balance in more areas than I was willing to admit. Which required rebalancing my time and shifting my priorities while I could. Before they took over my life and gained another 20 lbs. Oh, yea. I gained a LOT of weight for no good reason other than stress, poor health, and neglecting myself while pleasing EVERYONE else. Thankfully I was able to cut that when I woke up and reprioritized my health.


So, this brings me to the topic of the month - time management!

Why Care About Time Management?


Many of us are now finding trouble balancing our time between work and home. If we look at the time that we spend each day, how is that time being spent? How much time are you spending getting proper rest? How much time do you spend with your family? How much time do you spend exercising or preparing nutritious food to fuel you for the week? These simple, but equally difficult things can really help make or break the way our time is spent during the day.


More often than not, we make excuses for our behavior. We don’t do this because we want to, we don’t do this because we really are aware of it, but we do it because it’s coming from a place of comfort. In order to make a change, you have to get uncomfortable. Although managing your time seems simple, it is really uncomfortable to make changes to how we spend our time each day.

10 Time Management Tips


To better manage your time and get the most out of the day, try a few of these tips (or all of them!)

  1. Get a solid morning routine. Each morning, I make sure that I make my bed. I also make sure that I take my vitamins, put collagen peptides in my coffee, and take the dog out for a walk. These things are part of my routine. They help to set my day. Even though they seem small, these little things really helped me to get into a good headspace, feel good about myself, and put me in a good mood so that I can go serve people and not add my stress to their day. I’m still trying to get better at waking up early, but with appointments and meetings, that can be easier. I would love to just want to wake up earlier. I’m working on it.

  2. Plan your day. After I have had my coffee and checked a few emails, I take a look at my planner and make sure that I know exactly what I need to get done that day. I often overwhelm myself thinking about what I need to get done for the week, and typically when I do that nothing of importance really gets done. I do a lot of random little things, mostly halfway, but I still end that week feeling unaccomplished when I neglect and avoid the important things. Planning your day will ensure that you were spending your time on what matters most.

  3. Prioritize. This really falls into what I just mentioned. If you know what you need to get done that day just be sure that you spend time doing the things that matter most before you start doing all those little bitty things that make you feel like you’re busy but are actually just a distraction.

  4. Fuel your mind. We scroll through social media most of the day looking at things that either make us laugh, make us question ourselves, or make us doubt ourselves. It’s really important that you are fueling your mind by listening to things and looking at things that make you smile, inspire you and that put you in a positive place. We are living in a very depressing world right now, and it is so much easier to be negative. We have to fight a little harder to be positive and feel our mind with things that are going to inspire us to be creative, to get out of bed, to go make money, to continue living. Negative influences will only continue to hold you back. Start eliminating them. Write them down. You know what they are. Be honest with yourself and start making a change.

  5. Stay focused. Make sure that you are tuned into what matters. I talk about boundaries, managing time, doing what’s important, but if you are distracted and procrastinating, or even multitasking, you really get a lot of nothing of importance done. Stay focused. Minimize distractions. Take a break when you need to. Get out for a walk. Take time for yourself to recharge every 15 minutes for each two-hour block of work that you do.

  6. Be sure to laugh. It really is medicine for the soul. If we're having a stressful day and want to let our anxiety overwhelm us, do yourself a favor and listen to something that lifts your spirits, call that friend that you know will make you laugh, or write down your thoughts. I’m sure that will make you laugh after you get past that brief moment.

  7. Get outside. sunlight does so much for our health. With the COVID-19 pandemic, many have been advised to increase their vitamin D. What easier way to boost your health and just getting outside. It’s also a great way for you to get a boost of energy, bring a smile to your face, breathe in that fresh air, and release any stress and tension that you’re holding onto back into the air.

  8. Have a solid evening routine. Just as you do in the morning, you have to get your mind into the right place. A solid morning routine since your day. A solid evening routine will help you sleep more peacefully at night. It is a chance for you to calm down. Make sure you unwind, take a bath, listen to an audiobook, have a hot cup of chamomile tea. These things help me to wind down for the day and prepare for rest.

  9. Make sleep more important. when you're resting, that is the time your body recovers and repairs itself. don't take that for granted.

  10. STOP WORRYING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE. I literally don't need to say anything else about this. You know exactly who comes to mind and if that trigger does anything, let it be a sign, honey. DON'T WORRY about them. Other people's opinions DO NOT MATTER when you are doing what is best for your health, happiness, and confidence. People who love you know that. No question.
